Spain Rejects Displacement of Palestinians from Gaza

Spain has firmly opposed any proposals to displace Palestinians from Gaza, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated on Tuesday. In an interview with Euronews, Albares emphasized that “Gaza belongs to the Palestinians and the people who live there,” underscoring the importance of allowing them to remain in their homeland.

Albares argued that such displacement proposals are incompatible with the two-state solution, a framework also endorsed by the European Union. “Gaza is for the Palestinians, and they must stay there. We must help them rebuild their lives,” he added.

Condemnation of Israeli Settlements

The Spanish foreign minister also addressed the issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, describing them as illegal under international law and reiterating the United Nations’ repeated condemnation of such actions. He called for increased international humanitarian aid and UN-backed efforts to support Gaza’s reconstruction.

Criticism of European Allies Over Netanyahu’s Visits

Albares criticized several European countries, including Poland, Hungary, and France, for permitting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to enter their territories despite an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). He urged the European Union to maintain an independent and unified policy, free from external influence, and to uphold its core values, such as the equal sovereignty of states and territorial integrity.

Call for Support for UNRWA

Albares also called on the EU to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). His appeal comes amid Israel’s demand that the agency cease its operations in Jerusalem by January 30.
