Germany Rejects the Idea of Displacing Palestinians from Gaza

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the idea of displacing Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt or Jordan is unacceptable.

He made this remark in response to a question about why Germany supplies weapons to Israel, which has committed war crimes, during an election event for his party in Berlin.

Claiming that Germany provided military support to Israel for self-defense, Scholz said, “We have assessed each decision individually. We did not publicly discuss every decision on this matter.”

He added that Germany would continue to support Israel with weapons, but emphasized that “respect for international law is at the core of all aspects related to humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza, the two-state solution, and a fair perspective for the future.”

Scholz reiterated that the focus should be on a two-state solution, which would allow for peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine.

“From my perspective, this concretely means that the Palestinian Authority should also take responsibility for Gaza, and the possibility of a two-state solution should develop from there,” he said.

The German Chancellor stressed that peaceful coexistence can only be achieved in this manner and that Germany would continue to support this path.

Responding indirectly to former U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Arab countries, particularly Jordan and Egypt, Scholz stated, “Any plans for resettlement or the idea of deporting Gaza’s residents to Egypt or Jordan are unacceptable.”

He emphasized that efforts toward peace must not be jeopardized at this critical time, stating, “This is extremely important. It is not just about a temporary pause. A permanent peace must emerge from the ceasefire.”
