Italy Rejects Trump’s Proposal to Relocate Palestinians from Gaza

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has dismissed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion to relocate displaced Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt or Jordan, stating that the idea does not represent a “concrete plan” but could serve as a starting point for dialogue with regional actors.

During a press conference, Meloni acknowledged Trump’s emphasis on the challenges of rebuilding Gaza, stating, “President Trump is absolutely right when he says that rebuilding Gaza is one of the main challenges we face and that achieving this requires significant international cooperation.”

However, she firmly opposed any proposal involving the forced displacement of Gaza’s residents.

Trump’s proposal involved resettling 1.5 million displaced Palestinians in Egypt or Jordan, either temporarily or permanently, while Gaza undergoes reconstruction. The plan, however, was met with strong opposition from both the Jordanian and Egyptian governments.
