German Foreign Minister: Gaza Belongs to Palestinians, Forced Expulsion Unacceptable

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has stated that Gaza, like the West Bank and East Jerusalem, belongs to the Palestinians and that any attempt to expel them from the territory is unacceptable and violates international law. She warned that such measures would lead to further suffering and hatred. Baerbock’s remarks came in response to a proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested taking control of Gaza and expelling Palestinians from the enclave. The proposal has been met with widespread international condemnation. The German foreign minister emphasized that any resolution to the situation in Gaza must involve direct consultation with the Palestinians, stressing that true security can only be achieved through real peace. Her comments align with a broader international rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. Numerous governments and international organizations have warned that such actions would constitute a breach of international law and undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.

France Condemns Trump’s Proposal on Gaza as a Threat to Stability and Peace

The French government has strongly condemned former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza and forcibly displace its Palestinian residents, calling it a “dangerous” threat to regional stability and the peace process. In a recent statement, French government spokesperson Olivia Grégoire stressed that such remarks violate international law and undermine efforts to achieve a two-state solution. Echoing this stance, French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine rejected Trump’s proposal, warning that any attempt to impose external control over Gaza or expel its residents constitutes a serious violation of international law and hampers the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people. He further cautioned that such actions could destabilize the broader region, including key partners such as Egypt and Jordan. France reaffirmed its position that Gaza’s future must be part of an independent Palestinian state and should not fall under the control of a third party. Trump’s remarks have sparked widespread condemnation from the international community, with many viewing them as a direct threat to peace efforts in the Middle East.

EU Envoy: Two-State Solution Is the Only Path to Lasting Peace

The European Union’s special envoy for the Middle East peace process, Sven Koopmans, has reaffirmed that the only viable solution for lasting peace in the region is the establishment of two sovereign and secure states—Israel and Palestine. Koopmans emphasized that “true security can only come through real peace,” highlighting the necessity of a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict. His remarks came in response to a controversial proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which suggested taking control of Gaza and displacing its Palestinian residents. The proposal has been met with widespread condemnation and rejection. Appointed in May 2021, Koopmans serves as the EU’s special representative for the Middle East peace process. His mandate includes actively contributing to a final settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the two-state solution, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2334 (2016).

160 International Organizations Urge EU to Ban Trade with Israeli Settlements

More than 160 international civil society organizations have called on the European Union to ban trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories. In a joint letter addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, organizations including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International urged the EU to comply with international law and end its support for Israeli settlers who have taken over Palestinian land. The letter referenced a July 2024 ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which deemed Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal. The organizations argued that the EU’s current policies violate its international obligations and called for an immediate halt to the import of goods produced in settlements accused of human rights violations. Since October 7, 2023, Israeli military operations and settler attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have escalated, resulting in the deaths of 905 Palestinians, injuries to 7,000 others, and the arrest of 14,300 people, according to official Palestinian sources. With U.S. backing, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, resulted in what Palestinian authorities have described as genocide, with more than 159,000 Palestinians killed or injured, the majority being women and children. Additionally, over 14,000 people remain missing. A ceasefire agreement took effect on January 19, 2025, with an initial 42-day phase, during which negotiations are underway for a second and third phase, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
